USB Casual Day Fund Supporting Charities

EUSTIS – If Fridays seem a little more casual at United Southern Bank, it’s all for a good cause. In exchange for a $1 donation per pay check to the Casual Day Fund, employees may wear polo shirts with the bank logo and other approved casual wear. Over the past 15 years, the fund has been distributed to a variety of organizations annually.

LSCC Foundation Gives Back With Scholarships

The Lake-Sumter Community College Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Committee received over 435 applications, and provided 179 scholarships totaling $135,252 to students attending LSCC for the Spring semester. These students are pursuing degrees in a variety of programs, including Nursing, Criminology, Public Relations, Business Administration, Education, Pre-Engineering, Law and Computer Technology.

Back to School is COOL Giving Back in Lake

A local Charity, Back to School is COOL-Lake County wanted to ensure that this year Lake County Students had a gift to open during the Holidays. All Lake County Schools were offered the opportunity to identify students in need and provide gift wishes to the Charity.

It was quickly noted that this would be a huge task as some schools had over 250 children in need. Luckily Cheryl Fishel and the Pig on The Pond business and supporters chose the charity as their charity of choice for their gift drive this year.

LAKE Announces Cover Girl

Mission Inn – LAKE Magazine held its annual Best of the Best Gala Monday, December 19 at the Mission Inn. They announced their reader’s choice winners for this year’s contest which you can read in the upcoming January issue.

Also announced was the January 2012 Cover Girl. Myron Leggett and last year’s LAKE Cover Girl, Tiffany Seavolt, unveiled the face of Danielle Stratton on the upcoming cover.

Appleton Exhibition Highlights

December 20th, 2011

Ocala – The month of February will feature the exhibition “For the Love of the Sea: Watercolors of Philip Steel” and the Feb. 11 opening of “Three From Cuba: The Art of Vicente, Miguel and Sandro – The Fantastic to the Sublime” at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida. Other events during the month include an After Hours performance of Cuban and Caribbean music by Gosia and Ali on Feb. 2, a Trips ’N’ Tours excursion to the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg on Feb. 15, CF International Film Series screenings on Feb. 7 and 21 and a “Women In Art” docent tour on Feb. 23.
