It’s Hard to Top the First Hottest Husband
Story by Michael Harris
He glided into the conference center at Mission Inn with a majestic presence. People turned to glance, the paparazzi came to shoot him – all 6-foot-6 of him.
When Ryan Langley enters a building he casts a shadow.
“I’ll always be the original and these guys can try and fill my shoes, but that won’t happen,” Ryan says with confidence.
Ryan Langley, the champion of the first Hottest Husband contest paraded around, shaking hands with well-wishers at the Howey resort. He still draws a crowd wherever he goes and it’s not easy being the king.
“You know, it’s been tough, a lot of pressure. Many people expect many things of you being the Hottest Husband,” he says. “You know with the decline in the economy, people naturally blame that on the Hottest Husband. You get to much blame for what goes on in the readership (of the magazine) area. Why the economy? Well they have to blame it on somebody and the president’s term limited out, so there you are.”
In truth, Ryan received plenty of razzing from his buddies and colleagues.
“It’s been quite a year, a lot of people pick on you, because you are on the magazine cover,” he says. “You don’t realize what a large reach the magazine has when so many people come up to you. I’ve had people from Orlando come up to me and say ‘Hey, you’re the guy from the magazine.’”
What Ryan fails to state is he may get teased about being the Hottest Husband from his friends, but that doesn’t mean there’s a bit of ego that goes along with it. And who gets the brunt of the ego? Why, the First Lady – Angie, Ryan’s wife of 12 years.
And she has advice for Erin Diaz, wife of this year’s winner Jose.
“If you think your husband already has a big head, he certainly will after being crowned hottest husband,” Angie says. “And as much humiliation he’s going to get from his buddies from this, all the payback will come back to the wife.”
But, according to Ryan, Jose will not be able to fill his shoes.
“They just need to focus on being the best hot husband they can be,” says Ryan as he took everything he was asked and said as tongue-in-cheek.
