Damu Dazzles
Take time out from your post Wimbledon doings, your post Coke Zero 400 talking or leftover grillin’ burgers and pay attention to what a Clermont resident is quietly doing. Damu Cherry, a Tampa native actually, but now living and training at the NTC, is going about what she does best – beating the competition in the hurdles.
Last weekend, while everyone was enjoying burgers and waiting for cars to turn left at Daytona, Damu was blazing in the 100-meter hurdles posting a time of 12.68 at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.
This came just a couple weeks after Damu earned a spot at the World Championships with her finish at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Oregon.
She also won in Berlin on June 14th in a 12.76 time. So far this year, Damu is tearing up the competition and many will remember LAKE magazine wrote about her trip to China and her fourth-place finish in the hurdles during the Olympics. Before you know it, 2012 will be here and Damu will be eyeing London. If she continues to have the year she’s having now, a medal could very well be in her future, not only at this year’s World Championships, but the Olympics as well.
