NCAA Golf Wrap Up

The University of Central Florida men’s golf team earned their fourth trip to the NCAA Championships by claiming their first title at the NCAA Southeast Regional at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento,

UCF finished the three-round event at 34-under 818, 11 shots ahead of top-ranked Georgia, Arizona and South Carolina, who tied for second.

Redshirt freshman Brad Schneider placed second at 13-under 200 with rounds of 66, 71 and 63 on the par-71 course. He was followed in third by freshman Blayne Barber at 202 (-11). On Saturday, Barber recorded a school and course record 9-under 62 and played bogey-free the entire round. Barber recorded six birdies on the back nine.

The regional title was the first in school history for the Knights. UCF will be making its fourth trip to the championship and first since 1992.

The NCAA Championship will be held in Toledo, Ohio, at the Inverness Club from May 26-30. Thirty teams and five individuals will be in action at the event.

Arizona’s Tarquin McManus had a 15-under 198 to win individual honors with rounds of 63, 66 and 69. MacManus, a sophomore from Cairns, Queensland, Australia, helped lead the Wildcats to their 22nd NCAA Championships appearance in the past 23 seasons.

The top five teams move on to the NCAA Championships and, in addition to the four mentioned above, Iowa earned a spot with a three-day total 837 (15-under).
