Former South Lake High football and track star and current University of Florida star, Jeff Demps, was named to the NCAA All-America Team following his performance at the 2010 Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
Demps, a redshirt freshman on the track team, was one of 15 Gators named to the team, the second highest total of any school. Texas A&M was first with 19.
Demps won the national title last weekend when he ran a wind-aided 9.96 to win the 100-meter dash at the event held in Eugene, Oregon. The 2010 NCAA Indoor 60-meter champion, Demps won the school’s first 100-meter title since Bernard Williams won in 2000. His time of 9.96 would have been a new school record had the race not been heavily wind-aided (+2.5).
“It was a great race,” Demps said. “I executed well and came out with the win. I know my team needed the points and I just came out to get the 10 points to try to help us win the team title.”
Florida finished second in the team event to Texas A&M, one point behind the Aggies, 55-54..
He also was a member of the National Champion 4X100 relay team where he teamed with Chris Rainey, Jeremy Hall and Terrell Wilks in a time of 39.04.
