Positive dining in God’s Cafe
You may have heard of the recent move of God’s Cafe to downtown Leesburg. Several people may remember God’s Cafe when it was located in downtown Mount Dora under a different name.
I had the opportunity to perform an interview while dining at God’s Cafe recently and can say that I was impressed with what I experienced. I actually have never been to the former location in Mount Dora and wished I had after this visit.
The interesting concept about God’s Cafe is that there are no prices for the meals offered on their menu. All the restaurant, and owner/chef Gary Hagan, want you to feel led to do is donate what you feel is right to give.
Judging from the enormous Maui Waui salad that I was presented, a healthy mixture of veggies, fruit and turkey coated in a sweet sauce, they deserve a decent size tip for their delicious food. Even regular salads provided enough to fulfill your daily veggie intake to the point where even a vegetarian might say “enough!”
The menu also has quiche, wraps, sandwiches and soups, with some items having a unique twist to their typical recipe. Sides included fruit, coleslaw and salad, making it easy to indulge when you see most of the items are very healthy.
Although I didn’t try their nationally-recognized cheesecake, I plan to make another stop over in the near future to sample more from their unique menu and polish off a “little” slice of cheesecake as well. Their cheesecake has been served to celebrity palates like inspirational speaker Joyce Meyers, earning Gary Hagen the name “Cheesecake Man” in the ministry world.
I could even have some ice cream as well as God’s Cafe also caters to dairy lovers with Blue Bell ice cream.
What also a breath of fresh air is that God’s Cafe really is centered around “God” and Jesus. Christian music can be heard from the overhead speakers as you dine while everything from the wall hook holding Jesus’ crown of thorns to miniature verse stand on the tables subtly encourages you to recognize who blessed you with the opportunity to eat and enjoy this food and day.
I felt at home dining at God’s Cafe and applaud all of those involved with the restaurant for putting together this soul-satisfying restaurant. Give more than you normally would for your meal at God’s Cafe, as it should go to the one who originally put that money into your pocket [and no, it wasn't just your boss, spouse or job, but a higher influence].
