Bonnie Szabo
Losing weight, especially in a competition like this, can be frustrating enough when you feel like you’re doing all you can.
Take Bonnie Szabo; actually Bonnie would like you to take some of her weight from her.
“I’ve changed my diet,” she says. “I’ve changed to absolutely no carbs and all protein, and still I’m tapping into lean muscle. I don’t know what else I have to do as a person. I’m doing cardio; I’m doing crunches until I can’t breathe. My weight (lifting) has increased.”
Bonnie is a little perturbed at the fact the body fat isn’t coming off the way she had hoped. After two months, she has lost just 1.5 percent of body fat after two months. Yet, she has lost 17 pounds overall – not a bad stat.
“They (those at work) encourage me and they see it, but I guess I’m the last one to see it,” says Bonnie, who works as an assistant dental hygienist for Dr. Ralph Toombs. “My boss is always telling me ‘It’s not about the numbers; it’s all about how the clothes are fitting.’”
Bonnie is frustrated in a way because she hasn’t been getting the same results as everyone else, but she is thankful for the training she’s getting from the LRMC Wellness Center.
“I know when I’m giving it my all and I’ve changed my diet, yet I’m not seeing numbers on the scale. You hear everyone else talking and you’re reading blogs. It’s like you’re at a wall and you’ve plateaued and you’re not getting anywhere,” she says. “It’s very frustrating.”
So what will she do in the coming months?
“I’ll probably fuel more frustration into working out more.”
