the 2010 Cover Girl
Congratulations to Lindsey Cipris of Leesburg who was crowned the 2010 Cover Girl winner at the Best of the Best celebration in December. Congratulations also to the amazing runner-ups; Kimberlee Davan, Sierra Ford, Chelsea Smith and Maria Sorbera.
Winner Lindsey Cipris is a born and raised native of Leesburg and sees that the 2010 Cover Girl should also be someone who characterizes Lake County. “I think [the cover girl] is someone who represents Lake County with great leadership qualities and is interesting as every cover girl has always had an interesting story,” she says Lindsey plans to become a dental hygienist and hopes to attend Valencia Community College’s dental hygiene degree program after finishing classes at Lake-Sumter Community College this spring. Outside of class, she is also the smiling face that greets you at the Northgate Animal Clinic in Leesburg where she works as the receptionist. Finalist Maria Sorbera describes being surprised to be picked for the top 10 and then chosen to be among the top five. She has to thank the constant “encouragement” from a friend for pushing her to enter. “She wouldn’t let up on it. She said ‘well, you are well-liked and everybody knows you and you have a great personality and you could be a cover girl. Why not represent the baby boomers?’” Maria recalls.
A frequent presence in The Villages, Maria works as a musical artist consultant for Katie Belle’s Resident Club while also being the cook behind the restaurant’s Mama Maria’s homemade meatballs.
A resident of Montverde for the past three and a half years, finalist Kim Davan moved to Lake County from Cape Cod, Mass. to pursue an acting career. She has since performed several supporting roles in area plays and independent films and hopes to someday act alongside movie great Tom Hanks.
Kim sees her Christian faith displays much of who she is as a person and considers the song “Where I Belong” by MercyMe to describe her faith-based personality. “The song is about how your whole life you are searching for meaning and the meaning is to live for God,” she says. “The last few years I realized why I am a Christian.”
Finalist Chelsea Smith hopes to embody one of LAKE Magazine’s segment, “Not So Ordinary People,” if she were crowned the 2010 Cover Girl. “You always get the ‘I can’t,’ so I try to be a role model to those who feel they can’t do something. One person can change the world,” she says.
Chelsea is currently attending the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, where she is majoring in Elementary Education. “I have a passion for little kids and I’ve always wanted to be a teacher,” she says.
Chelsea will help others find that same inner strength, especially those between first and third grade, when she returns to Clermont to teach after graduation.
Finalist Sierra Ford is attending the University of Central Florida for Interdisciplinary Studies with interest in Environmental Photography. She hopes to become a professional photographer like her mother and one day see her pictures within the pages of National Geographic and LAKE Magazine.
Another activity Sierra enjoys taking part in is Habitat for Humanity. She will be involved in January’s Shack-a-thon event where participants will build and stay overnight in a shack to promote elimination of poverty housing. Sierra also recently returned from a mission trip to Louisiana where she helped build a house for a resident in need. “Community service is something I’m really passionate about,” she concludes.
